How To Fix A Semi-brick

This is not a post I wanted to make. However, even though I made a whole post about every single type of brick and how to fix it, seems like it hasn’t been paid attention to (which does bother me, but oh well, only so much you can do for people sometimes).

Semi-bricks seem to be encountered frequently, so I’ve decided to go ahead and make a post dedicated on how to fix them.

The Symptoms

The main symptom of a semi brick is the Wii Settings menu not working. It will either show an Opera error, or it will show some black dots.

The Cause

The cause of a semi-brick is pretty simple. It’s caused by a mismatch between the region of the installed System Menu and the actual region settings of the Wii.

How To Fix It

In order to fix this problem, you have to narrow down your situation.

If you have the Homebrew Channel installed, use Method 1

If you don’t have the Homebrew Channel installed, use Method 2

Method 1:

In order to do this, you will need an SD card or USB with Wii Mod Lite on it.

Open the Homebrew Channel and load Wii Mod Lite.

Then, go to the information section, and check what your System Menu region is.

Once you know what it is, go back to the main menu and go to the region changer option.

Once inside the region changer option, set the region preset to the one that matches your System Menu region.

When done, save settings and exit. Your semi brick is now fixed.

Method 2:

In order to do this, you will need to use Bluebomb or a game based exploit if you have the required game.

If you are using a game based exploit, there’s no worries, as you don’t need to know your System Menu version.

If you’re using Bluebomb, if you know your System Menu version and region, great. Use that when Bluebomb asks you for it. If you don’t know, start at 4.3, try every 4.3 region, and if none of them work, move to 4.2, try all the regions, etc. until you find one that works.

Use the exploit to install the Homebrew Channel.

Once you have the Homebrew Channel installed, continue using Method 1.

Outro

Yes. This post is short. Why? Because semi-bricks are incredibly simple.

Moral of the story: for the love of god, search before you post. it’s not rocket science.
